Here's a 5-day itinerary for a trip to Sikkim:

Day 1: Arrival and Local Sightseeing

  • Arrive at Bagdogra airport or New Jalpaiguri railway station and transfer to Gangtok (about 4-5 hours).
  • Check-in at your hotel and freshen up.
  • Visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, which has a collection of Tibetan artifacts and manuscripts, and the Enchey Monastery, a beautiful 200-year-old monastery.
  • Spend the evening exploring the MG Road area, which has plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants.

Day 2: Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir Excursion

  • After breakfast, head to Tsomgo Lake, a beautiful glacial lake located about 40 km from Gangtok.
  • Enjoy the scenic drive through the mountains and stop at the Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary on the way.
  • Visit Baba Mandir, a temple dedicated to an Indian Army soldier who died in the Indo-China war of 1962.
  • Return to Gangtok in the evening.

  • Visit the Rabdentse Ruins, which was the capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Sikkim before it was shifted to Gangtok.
  • Visit the Sangacholing Monastery, which is known for its beautiful architecture and stunning views of the surrounding hills.

Day 5: Departure

  • Check out from your hotel in Pelling and drive back to Bagdogra airport or New Jalpaiguri railway station (about 6-7 hours).
  • En route, stop at the Ravangla Buddha Park, which has a giant statue of Buddha and offers panoramic views of the mountains.
  • Depart for your onward journey.
